Why Choose Us?

The personnel at Atlanta Precision Spindles (ATLPS) have been repairing spindles for the Aerospace, Automotive, Machine Tool, Optical and Woodworking Industries in the Southeast since January 1994. For twenty years prior to 1994, the key people at ATLPS began repairing Spindles in a Research & Development facility for one of the largest broad based bearing manufacturers in the world. The company was forced to bring all of their Spindle repairs in house due to poor & inconsistent quality, long lead times, and costing issues. We gathered the best engineering, metallurgists and skilled people together and spent the next twenty years fine tuning and developing a world class in house Spindle repair facility. We were responsible for over 1600 production machine Spindles in 18 manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada. We developed repair processes and sophisticated ways of testing Spindles prior to being put into production. A repaired Spindle should never be returned to a customer unless it has been fully run and tested. The production floor is not the place to test your Spindle. Our goal has always been to find ways to reduce Spindle failures and the cost associated with Spindle Repairs.

The main cause of premature Spindle failures aside from a “Smashup/Crash”, is contamination. Contamination can be introduced into the Spindle bearings in many ways. Spindle failure can come from dirty wet lube oil, dirty wet compressed air, a poorly designed Spindle or improper maintenance of service and support equipment.
Another major contributor to premature Spindle failure, which is often ignored or not fully understood, is caused directly by the repair process. The facility that is repairing your Spindles must truly understand the need for maintaining exacting tolerances and the necessity for controlling proper cleanliness levels for assembly and testing. You could inadvertently have purchased and paid for the facility’s dirty uncontrolled process and the subsequent damage to your Spindle. Ultimately you could receive a Spindle back from repair that will fail prematurely.

You need to ask questions about the repair process and the level of expertise for the personnel repairing your precision Spindle. The Spindle is the “Heart” of your production machinery. Beware of bargains when it comes to repairing your Spindles, having Heart or Brain Surgery. Make sure that the Spindle Repair facility that you entrust your Spindle to, is worthy of that trust.

Atlanta Precision Spindle’s key people have spent years doing the right things. We have set many of the industry standards for “Clean Dry Oil and Clean Dry Compressed Air” as it relates to Spindles. We filter our cleaning solvents that process all of the various
components with 3 micron absolute filtration prior to the final assembly. All of the assembly is done in a “Class 10,000 Clean Room”, in a “Class 100 Laminar Flow Bench”. If the Spindles require Air Oil or Air Oil Mist Lubrication, we use only “Purified Lube Oil” that meet or exceed an ISO Cleanliness level of 14/13/10. You can be assured that when your Spindle leaves our facility, that you have not purchased a dirty repair process or our dirty wet lube oil or compressed air. We do it right!

Our repair Certification includes running your Spindle at its maximum rated speed and also at the speed that you historically run the Spindle. Our detailed Spectrum Analysis is performed utilizing the latest equipment and technology from Schenck Trebel, the world leader in balancing and diagnostic testing equipment for rotating assemblies. We have worked closely with Schenck for over twenty years and have been their Sales Representative for the past 10 years. We are continually looking for changes and advancements in Spindle testing technology.

Note: We have a Certified Class 10,000 Clean Room, and separate Class 10,000 Inspection/Metrology area! Certification ensures that your Spindles are assembled in an extremely clean environment, lessening the chance of contamination from the repair process. Be sure to check if your repair facility has current certification on it’s clean room!
